Chance the Rapper Premieres New Song "We the People" in Nike Olympics Ad

A "Star Spangled Banner"-inspired tune from Chance the Rapper and Nike Basketball provides the soulful backdrop to a new film paying tribute to USA Basketball team and, it seems, the country as a whole. The song, "We the People," features in a gorgeous, black-and-white music video depicting moving images of members of the U.S. men's and women's teams, artfully projection-mapped onto homes and buildings.

Featuring a spare, piano accompaniment, the song opens with the performer saying, "We want some heroes in our story ... We need glory for while." Its message of unity provides a refreshing, uplifting reprieve and from today's grim headlines, filled with stories of racially-motivated violence and discussion of a country falling apart.
Nike commissioned Chance the Rapper to write "We the People" as an anthem for the USA Basketball team. It will be available on iTunes and SoundCloud from August 11 and on Spotify from August 12. The film, "Unlimited Together," continues the brand's campaign that sees athletes pushing far past expected boundaries, such as this one featuring transgender duathlete Chris Mosier and another in which Nike shattered its own "Just Do It" tagline. It was created out of Wieden & Kennedy, New York and shot by music video director Hiro Murai.
